Smooth Waters for Pirates Against Brown City, Advance to Regional Finals on Thursday

It was a night of smooth sailing for the Pirates as they knocked out Brown City for the third time this season en route to a 69-33 victory in the Region 24 Semi-Finals on Tuesday, March 04, 2025. Harbor Beach now advances to the regional finals on Thursday against Flint New Standard (Flint Elite) at 7:00pm.
The Pirates shot out to a 10-2 lead in the first two and a half minutes of the game, a lead they never surrendered, leading by as many as 40 points later in the game. Benson Harper led Harbor Beach with 33 points despite sitting for the entire fourth quarter. Harper scored 14 in the first quarter, two in the second and 17 of Harbor Beach’s 23 points in the third quarter. The defense of the Pirates was also too much for Brown City, forcing 17 turnovers before getting the remainder of the roster in the game in the fourth quarter. Harbor Beach also out-rebounded Brown City 28-10.
After Harper, Skiler Kruse and Hackett Soper each scored seven points for Harbor Beach with Luke Bischer adding in six. Brown City was led by seniors Ethan Worrell at 10 points and Robert Browning’s eight points. The Green Devils finish the season with a record of 13-12 and back-to-back district titles. Harbor Beach now faces off with a talented and fast Flint New Standard squad. Also known as Flint Elite (a name to represent the co-op athletic programs of Flint New Standard and Burton Madison), the Warriors defeated Millington on their home court by two points, 63-61 that came down to the final seconds.
