Lakers Roll, Fend Off USA’s Third Quarter Surge

February 14, 2025 /// Pigeon, Michigan

The Lakers may have been without their leading scorer, but you wouldn’t know it as they rolled through the USA Patriots, 57-42 on Friday, February 14, 2025. The win snapped a two-game losing streak and evened the score with USA for the season, avenging a 13-point road loss in January.

Lakers wasted no time showing that their team was deeper than Caden Carriveau who was out due to illness, outscoring the Patriots 11-2 by the end of the first quarter. That trend continued in the second quarter when the Green Machine would go on a 9-0 run in just one minute and 56 seconds, while both Luke Good and Lucas Wehner each added seven points, extending their halftime lead over USA to 19 points, 31-12.

The third quarter belonged to the USA Patriots and particularly Justin Jacobs who would drop 16 points in the quarter and bring the deficit down to seven points, 40-33 in favor of Lakers to start the fourth quarter. The Patriots would continue their attack into the final quarter and cut it to a two-point game, 42-40 with still six minutes remaining. That’s as close as USA would get with the Laker offense reigniting behind the arc with Luke Good, Mason Carr and Kade Wisenbaugh all hitting triples in the final eight minutes. Lakers would close out the game at the free throw line to win by 15 points.

Luke Good more than doubled his season average of 7.6 with a team-high 16 points, while Lucas Wehner added 14. USA was led by Justin Jacobs’ 22 points, 20 of which were scored in the second half. Landon Bursick finished with 10 points.

The victory marks Lakers’ first win in February, having double-digit losses to Millington and Reese in the meantime. Lakers have three games in the final week of the regular season against Saginaw Valley Lutheran, Bad Axe and Vassar. The Patriots have now lost six straight games in 18 days, since defeating Michigan Lutheran Seminary on January 27. USA closes out the regular season with a game at Bad Axe on Friday, February 21.
